Program  Associate Position

CASH Oregon (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) is an up and coming nonprofit committed to the economic development of low-income people.  www.cashoregon.org

CASH Oregon works in collaboration with AARP Tax-Aide and the IRS to provide free tax preparation services.  CASH Oregon’s Lloyd Center site completed 2400 tax returns for low income people.  Each filer received an average refund of $1,200.  In Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties, we served 15,600 taxpayers bringing $19 million in federal tax refunds to working Oregonians and into the local economy.

Responsibilities:

Training

  • Instruct tax classes for volunteers
  • Set training schedule and obtain classroom space in cooperation with AARP Tax-Aide
  • Attend orientations, register volunteers for training
  • Disseminate confirmations, reminders and class rosters to appropriate parties
  • Coordinate training study lab for volunteers to work on tax problems with assistance

Community Outreach

  • Coordinate outreach efforts
  • Compose outreach materials, coordinate dispersal
  • Train and manage outreach volunteers and speaking events
  • Communicate services to non-profit community

Local tax site support

  • Recruit and coordinate work of temporary workers for tax season: Site/Shift Coordinator, Translator,  Client Facilitator
  • Assist with computer setup and site preparation
  • Work with Local Coordinator(s) to order materials and software
  • Train and manage the work of Client Facilitators and Translators
  • Act as tax site Local Coordinator during the off-season
  • Implement  tax-site complementary services such as Oregon Hunger Task Force resource referral, Multnomah County Family Economic Security (FES) Project mobile unit, and ITIN services

Requirements:

  • Experience as a Tax-Aide volunteer or willingness to become an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer 
  • Experience training on computer based software in a classroom environment
  • Experience working effectively with volunteers
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, basic troubleshooting for Windows based computers, understanding of database management
  • Experience working effectively with and building consensus amongst diverse groups including: low-income people, government agencies, community groups, other non-profitsand staff
  • Program management experience with the ability to plan and coordinate activities, staff and volunteers
  • Experience multi-tasking and managing many details including hundreds of emails and phone connections to and from volunteers
  • Strong understanding of effective outreach strategies
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, strong public speaking skills
  • Commitment  to working as a member of a team
  • Adaptable and flexible with high level of professionalism, integrity, and honesty

Salary:

$30,000 per year with benefits
