Join the Global Day of Climate Action on October 24th in Portland as part of 350.org. In Portland, the list of "350" events is growing daily. Already scheduled for our October 24th DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION is a kayak and canoe formation of the number "350" on the Willamette. PSU students, bicyclists, walkers supporting the 350-mile coastal trek, families, and concerned individuals will convene in Pioneer Square.

Free workshop - Take care of your car and the environment

Cars are one of the most polluting aspect of our daily lives. Learn how to lessen the impact of your car on the environment through practicing basic driving techniques and using less toxic alternatives. Get individual advice on green solutions for your car and hands-on experience with alternative cleaning products for both inside and outside your vehicle. Hear from a car repair expert about cars and the local environment and take away free samples and coupons to start your green car journey.

Washington State University Clark County Extension and the Clark County Clean Water Program co-sponsor this workshop and others in a series of community workshops offered throughout the year.

Portland-based nonprofit conducting chimpanzee conservation programs in Cameroon seeks part-time Development Coordinator to conduct a full range of development functions, including grant writing, direct mail appeals, events, etc. Success in obtaining grants for Africa-based wildlife conservation and/or animal welfare strongly preferred.

In Defense of Animals – Africa (IDA-Africa) is a decade-old advocate for chimpanzees in Cameroon, home to the most endangered subspecies of chimpanzee. IDA-Africa’s mission is to provide sanctuary for chimpanzee orphans in Cameroon, and to promote the social and cultural conditions to ensure endangered great apes survive and thrive in their natural habitats.

PEEPs Coordinator

Northwest Service Academy seeks a Coordinator for its Portland Environmental Engagement Program (PEEPs).  PEEPs engages local middle-school age youth in environmentally and community focused projects and service experiences.  Started four years ago by NWSA AmeriCorps members as a summer day camp, PEEPs has expanded to include school-year programming as well.  We are looking for someone with experience with the middle-school age group, as well as environmental and/or experiential education, volunteer leadership, meeting facilitation and community-building activities, and knowledge of Pacific Northwest ecology.  Help us continue the high level of programming that PEEPs campers and parents have grown to depend on!

Description: Cascade AIDS Project (CAP), the leading provider of HIV prevention education, housing, advocacy and support services in Oregon and Southwest Washington, seeks a Client Advocate for the CareLink program, to assist People Living with HIV to access and maintain medical care. The Client Advocate works with CAP staff, volunteers, and other agencies to provide quality services to the community. This position is 0.75 FTE (with the potential to increase to full-time) and has a particular focus on exploring ways to engage at-risk and positive youth in testing and care services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s Degree in human/social services field (social work, public or community health, psychology) or related field or equivalent experience

Salary / Pay Rate:$19,388 to $27,344 annually at 0.75 FTE ; employer-paid health, dental, vision, long-term disability and life insurance; 401(k) retirement plan with generous employer matching contribution, 125 C cafeteria savings plan; generous vacation, and health leave benefits.

Office furniture available to non-profits

Mercy Corps has the following items available to non-profits:   Free work space cubicle set ups. These are the framed walls only.   Also available for $100 suggested donation per unit, are 25 high quality cubicle framed wall set ups that include desk area and file cabinet. No chairs.   Miscellaneous tables, shelves, desks, file cabinets, stacking chairs, etc. for a suggested donation of about $20 each.   You must be able to unassemble and haul any items yourself. If you're interested, please contact Steve Zodrow directly at 503-807-3420. The items will need to be picked up within the next week.
