Mural Painting at Lane Middle School

Grab a paintbrush and head down to Lane Middle School to help paint our first community mural! Help make our community beautiful and get to know your neighbors while enjoying quality time with friends and family.

Painting will be taking place Tuesday, June 1st through Friday, June 4th from 4pm-5:30pm in Lane’s cafeteria. Then get a chance to leave your personal mark and sign the mural while enjoying music and snacks at our June Family Night and SUN School showcase Tuesday, June 8th from 5:30pm-7pm.

This is a free event and all ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Mental Health for Returning Veterans training at PSU

Presented by staff of the Portland Veteran's Administration Medical Center and community providers Friday June 4, 2010, 8:00 am-4, at Smith Memorial Union

Enhance the care and adjustment of returning soldiers and their families by reviewing commonly occurring mental health problems and effective approaches to care. Equip yourself with information needed to better identify and address combat-related mental health problems, enabling yourself to more effectively work with soldiers, their families, and members of the systems they encounter.

Topics covered include: higher education, PTSD, TBI, addiction, integrated behavioral healthcare, women's issues, children and family issues, suicide, threat assessment, and corrections.

Register now for Toby Hemenway's upcoming Permaculture Design Course!  Learn practical, cutting edge techniques with the world-renowned author of Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture.

The course will meet in Portland on the third weekend of the month from June through November (*note* the class was originally going to start in May). The curriculum is the full 72-hour certification course, with certification being offered through the Permaculture Institute USA, the US branch of the International Permaculture Institute.

Rose CDC Needs Volunteer Artists

Do you have a passion for the arts? Do you enjoy working with children and youth? If so, volunteering with ROSE CDC is a great opportunity to add to your portfolio while providing a valuable service to the community.

We are looking for artists of all kinds (dance, music, photography, recycled arts, crafts, painting, drawing, murals, etc.) to work with our children and youth in our Summer program. Time commitment: 1 or 2 days for a total of 3 hours.

The ROSE Community Development Corporation is an affordable housing non-profit organization located in outer SE Portland. Through our Resident Assets Program, we provide resources and programming to support children and families with low to mid income. Your time and creativity would be greatly appreciated.

Savor the Flavor - 6-10-10 - Event Volunteer Opportunity

Savor the Flavor - Taste of Washington County on Thursday, June 10 will honor Gov. Vic Atiyeh with the Heart of Washington County Award. This event will feature local food and wine at the Washington County Museum on the PCC Rock Creek Campus. Volunteers 21 and older are needed to serve food and wine, bus tables, and for setup and break-down of the event.

Orientation and training for service vols will begin at 4 pm. Set-up vols are needed from 2:00 - 5:30 pm. Event break-down will be from 8 pm - completion. Dinner will be served to all volunteers prior to event. Please wear black slacks, white shirt or blouse and dark, closed-toe, comfortable shoes.

OMSI Transcription Volunteer

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is seeking a Transcription Volunteer to work with members of the Evaluation and Visitor Studies team to transcribe video data related to family learning at the museum.

COMMITMENT: • This is a short-term volunteer position, with a preferred start date of June 7 and a completion date of June 25. • The estimated total work time is 60 hours, based on 12 hours of video. The work will be provided in two batches, evenly divided. Batch 1 must be completed by June 18, and Batch 2 must be completed by June 25. The work could be shared by two volunteers. • Must be available to perform the work at OMSI within a Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. schedule.
