"Odds and Ends for Furry Friends" Rummage Sale

Animal Aid, Inc. a non-profit, no-kill pet rescue organization, is having our annual “Odds and Ends for Furry Friends” garage sale 8/15-8/17, from 9am-4pm daily, in the Garden Home area at 5555 SW Dover Ct. 

Support a great cause while you shop for both people and animal related bargains. 

Also, we would like to offer any unsold items to another non-profit for their use.  Please email [email protected]  or call Denise at 503.245.9669 ASAP if you are interested.  We are able to help load items and would need them all to be picked up on Sunday afternoon, August 17th.

We will recycle your computers and electronics for Free!  We are here from 9am to 5:30 pm, M-F.

Drop-off box located outside shop.

We take TV's,PC's,Home electronics, and Consumer electronics. We strive to refurbish the items we receive before we recycle them.

Montavilla Community Fair, August 16

The Montavilla Community Fair is about a week away!

The Montavilla Community Fair is Saturday, August 16, from noon to 3pm, at the Central Bible Church Parking Lot, NE 90th and Glisan

The day includes:

Free kids activities including carnival games, an inflated slide, and a bouncy house

Free kids' haircuts and a Clothing Closet giving away shoes, coats & sweatshirts for kids

A free BBQ & live Music, 22 non-profit and business booths, and over 30 free raffle prizes

Join us from Noon to 3pm.

Placement/training coordinator needed for Chinese exchange students

Student placement/training coordinator needed for a hospitality student exchange program bringing students from China.  Students need a U.S.-based work experience, coupled with an educational institution featuring a hospitality program. For the educational component,the student program is now connected with Mount Hood Community College. The next step is to hire someone in Oregon to place students in hotels for 1-year paid internships and also be the educational company’s representative in Oregon to manage those student placements during that time.

This is a great opportunity to work from home with some in-state travel managing the placements.

ReCode Portland Community Organizer

Tryon Life Community Farm, a sustainability education and demonstration center in S.W. Portland, launched ReCode Portland to identify and remove regulatory barriers to sustainable building and land use through grassroots organizing, education, and legislation.

Since December 2007, over 50 volunteers and several organizations have been actively involved in ReCode, and we have already enjoyed significant success as the catalyst of a statewide campaign to legalize the re-use of graywater.

Phone Canvass Director, 30 hours/week, Short-term

The Oregon League of Conservation Voters Education Fund has an opening for a Phone Canvass Director to implement OLCV-EF’s Non-Partisan Voter Outreach project this summer. The position starts as soon as you are hired and lasts 4-5 weeks. Following completion of this project, there will be a similar employment opportunity with OLCV-EF’s sister organization, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters, which could last through the November election.

Salary / Pay Rate:Pay range is $1,800 - $2,100 per month (30 hours/week) depending on experience. Because of the focus on direct voter contact, this job will take place between 3-9:00 pm, five days/week.

Tune into OMSI’s podcast, Sound Science, providing illuminating answers to wonder-filled questions. This week's question:

Q & A

The Children's Book Bank would like to borrow a TRUCK to pick up 115 boxes of new BOOKS!

The Children's Book Bank in Portland recently received a large book grant from First Book. The 2600+ new children's books (packaged in 115 boxes) awarded to us will be available for pick-up in Auburn, WA on August 13th at 9:00 AM.

Would you or your organization be willing to lend us your 10 ft truck to help us get books into the hands of children who really need them?

We would need the truck on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 12th, as we plan to drive to Auburn the night before pick-up. The truck could be returned late on Wednesday, August 13th or on the morning of August 14th.

The round trip mileage is approximately 300 miles.
