Position Summary:

Works with families of color and community partners to provide effective reproductive and sexual health education programs to motivate people to adopt and maintain health-promoting attitudes and behaviors, and contribute to PPCW’s mission to provide, promote, and protect access to reproductive health care. Oversees the development and delivery of family programs in consultation with the communities to address the specific needs of the communities of color; oversees the development of culturally relevant lesson plans, curricula and evaluation material; seeks and coordinates participation in community events; presents information to various groups of youth and adults; provides reports; assists in securing funds for the programs; represents the agency; assists in training and support for educators, volunteers, and staff; and contributes to the team effort of the education department and agency, thereby ensuring quality education and training programs, and services for the community and clients. Must be fluent in the Spanish language (reading/writing/translating & speaking/interpreting abilities).

Key Responsibilities:

Family Education Programs • Consults with school administrators, teachers, parent groups and community leaders in development of sexuality education programs for youth and families. • Conducts assessments of services and programs for the communities developing tools that collect culturally specific information about, e.g. social and health-related behavior, needs, interests and obstacles to receiving reproductive and sexual health services. • Utilizes comprehensive, evidence based, culturally relevant curricula that emphasizes skill development, parent child connectedness, and encourages learner interaction. • Provides education programs in either English and/or Spanish for families by identifying learning and behavioral objectives and selecting instructional methodologies. • Presents comprehensive and culturally appropriate information and facilitates high level and individualized learning sessions on Parent Child Connectedness, sexuality topics, and Planned Parenthood services to schools, parent and community groups, professional organizations, and churches through public speaking, writing and audio-visual material. • Reviews and evaluates sexual health materials for appropriate content, reading level, accuracy of information, effectiveness and cultural relevance. • Administers evaluation tools to assess achievement of programs; maintains records of education programs; submits monthly documentation reports of all sessions completed, and provide reports as required by the agency and funders. • Evaluates training effectiveness by assessing application of learning theory, conducting process evaluation and seeking input from participant about cultural relevance. • Coordinates educational, training, and outreach programs for families in order to maximize intern and volunteer involvement in the programs and patient recruitment to the health care clinics. • The ability to perform the above-mentioned educational duties/interactions while communicating in both English and Spanish.

Additional responsibilities: • Works with assigned health center staff to assure that staff have an accurate understanding of education programs and can share that information with community members and clients as well as keeping up-to-date with the clinical information. • Provide information about Planned Parenthood medical services and appropriate referrals to youth, families, and community partners. • May assist with agency in-service training as well as other professional training programs as needed. • Assists in training of, and provides functional and technical support for Latino volunteers and interns. • Supports activities of the Education Department that need a bi-lingual/bi-cultural component • Assists the Vice President of Education with development, monitoring, and adherence to program budgetary goals. • Assist the Vice President of Education to secure funding for programs though grants, services fees, referrals, and other sources. • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing networks. • Acts as a primary liaison with the coalition of communities of color agencies and other grassroots coalitions and networks. • Represents PPCW at community meetings, events, and gatherings. • Attends meetings, trainings and special events as required. • Performs other duties as needed or directed. • Physical requirements: must be able to drive up to 2 hours per day, sit & stand up to 4 hours per day, bend & twist at waist/ walk/crouch/squat/carry items/complete repetitive hand movements for up to 1 hour per day.

Position requires knowledge of methods and techniques of sexual health education, public presentations, and professional training, knowledge of community resources, principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting, as well as of program research, analysis and evaluation. Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults from diverse communities. Business letter writing and basic report preparation techniques are required. Position requires the ability to gain cooperation through discussion and negotiation and ability to participate in teamwork. Position requires reading/writing/conversational fluency in Spanish. Availability to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends, as required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable, fully insured automobile.

Salary / Pay Rate:$18-19/hour, 20 hours per week
