Non-Profit Conservation Program Coordinator Open Position

Job Announcement: Portland-based nonprofit conducting chimpanzee conservation programs in Cameroon seeks part-time Program Coordinator to conduct a full range of program functions.

In Defense of Animals – Africa (IDA-Africa) is a decade-old advocate for chimpanzee conservation in Cameroon, home to the most endangered subspecies of chimpanzee. IDA-Africa’s mission is to provide sanctuary for chimpanzee orphans in Cameroon, and to promote the social and cultural conditions to ensure endangered great apes survive and thrive in their natural habitats.

Job Description:

To support the work of In Defense of Animals – Africa by maintaining website, writing and sending enewsletters, managing chimpanzee sponsorship program, reconciling database with electronic gifts and purchases, coordinating/corresponding with volunteer applicants, promoting volunteer and sponsorship programs internationally, writing stories and articles for publication, managing all aspects of electronic credit card contributions, creating print newsletter, working closely with development coordinator and IDA-Africa director.

Reports to: IDA-Africa Founder & Director (Cameroon)

Qualifications:

-Proven experience managing non-profit programs. -Ability to work independently, take initiative, self-motivate and self-support. -High-level organization and prioritization skills; proven ability to meet deadlines. -Computer skills must include excel, access, word, InDesign or other publishing software, database management.. -Excellent writing skills . -Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. -Examples of self-motivation and initiative in previous employment. -Experience in a small, non-profit organization. -Demonstrated understanding of the skills and attributes needed for success. -Commitment to growing the organization and position. -Intention of making long-term commitment to the organization. - Bachelor’s degree

Work Hours: Part-time position, 30 hours per week.
