Plant Trees in Gladstone on Saturday with SOLV!

Plant Trees and help restore the Clackamas River watershed at Goat Island in Gladstone at SOLV’s Team Up For Watershed Health site on Saturday, October 17th. Plantings start at 9 am, end by 12 pm and SOLV provides tools and gloves. By planting native trees and shrubs, volunteers will be lowering stream temperatures and creating an ecosystem that will filter polluted stormwater runoff, improve water quality, provide better habitat for wildlife, and be more resilient to climate change.

Goat Island is a 22 acre site along the lower Clackamas River and is popular with recreational fishing enthusiasts. The island side-channels are used by juvenile fish during the rainy season the trees are used by native birds. This area of the Lower Clackamas watershed is dominated by large Black cottonwood trees, but English ivy is suffocating much of the island, including many of the cottonwood trees. Project partners include Water Environment Services of Clackamas County, Clackamas County Parks, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy/Portland General Electric, and the Clackamas River Basin Council.
