position summary:

Western States Center is seeking an intern to conduct research and interviews to compile a historical timeline of organizing in the region and the work of Western States Center for the 20th anniversary of the Community Strategic Training Initiative (CSTI), the Center's highly regarded annual activist and organizer training event. The internship consists of two phases, described below. This is a 3 to 6 month position at 12hrs/week depending on the ability to complete one of the phases or both phases by the intern.

Responsibilities Phase I: • Schedule, conduct, and document interviews with participants, trainers, and staff from the past 20 years of CSTI. • Develop and maintain systems for tracking and recording/documenting outreach efforts and results. • Work with Center staff to compile a list of significant events and campaigns of the past 20 years to research. • Conduct follow up interviews with individuals ID’d through conversations with Center staff and compile information from print and online media sources. • Collect, organize and label photographs of interviewees and events or campaigns researched for this project.

Responsibilities Phase II: • Make reminder calls to scholarship groups during application and registration process. • Provide support with processing registrations and related data entry. • Coordinate compilation of mailings, participant’s folders, and other assembly projects. • Provide direct support to Events Coordinator during the CSTI event and assist in management of work-trade/volunteers when Coordinator is not available. • Participate in staff planning meetings, trainings, and other educational events as appropriate.

Qualifications:Qualifications: • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Experience conducting research and clearly organizing/compiling results • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently while also having the clarity to ask for help when needed • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and multi-task • Experience with Access or with other relational databases, Windows, Microsoft Word, email and web communication • A positive attitude and sense of humor
