**Check out our Fashion Show this Saturday to benefit MIKE Program**
We want you to join us this Saturday, March 13th, 2010! Learn about MIKE Program, who we are and what we are doing to make a difference in our community, and have a great time enjoying the latest trends and fashions in a small, private setting with some of Portland’s hottest talent! Come for a night of fashion, wine, contests, and community outreach at our Community Gathering: "It's the fashion to love your kidneys! a benefit for MIKE Program" in recognition of National Kidney Month. You can join Adidas, Sheridan Fruit Company, Betty Jean Couture, California Closets, and many others in making this event a great success. The fashion show is sure to be an entertaining extravaganza featuring Byron Beck and Ayanna Berkshire of the blockbuster hit Twilight and Extraordinary Measures, as well as celebrity models, and last but not least, MIKE Program's diverse teens.
ABOUT MIKE Program – MIKE Program enriches the lives of teens and empowers them to be ambassadors of health. Our purpose is to decrease the number of people whose kidneys fail because of obesity, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, risky behaviors, and negative social situations. The youth we serve often face socio-economic challenges or have family histories that may lead to increased risk of kidney failure. We recruit and train caring adults, often from the ranks of professional students, to be health mentors. The mentors team up with teachers and groups of young people to guide progress through MIKE Program’s comprehensive adolescent health programming. Over a period of months, meeting at least weekly, mentors build trust relationship with youth and help build life skills known to lead to academic and career success. Working in a cooperative environment, the youth develop a service project to help their peers, families, and communities adopt healthier behaviors. An example of the youth projects can be found at 703 NE Hancock, Portland, in a colorful and inspirational 2000 sq. ft. mural showing people of various heritages pursuing activities that lead to health, harmony, and hope. MIKE Program is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization EIN 45-0520604
Tickets are on sale on our website, and at 3 locations around Portland, or get your ticket at the door! 100% of proceeds from the evening will benefit MIKE Program and the at-risk youth we serve.
