The Story Behind City Repair

July 11, 2009.  Noon - 1PM

Location:  Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center (The Ecotrust Building). 721 NW 9th Ave., Portland, OR 97209

Mark Lakeman, the co-founder of City Repair, will be sharing with us the City Repair story.

For those of you not familiar with City Repair, nor experienced the cob building wonder of the Village Building Convergence, this non-profit was formed here in in Portland in 1996 by citizen activists who wanted a more community-oriented and ecologically sustainable society.

Born out of a successful grassroots neighborhood initiative that converted a residential street intersection into a neighborhood public square, City Repair began its work with the idea that localization (of culture, of economy, of decision-making) is a necessary foundation of sustainability.

By reclaiming urban spaces to create community-oriented places, they plant the seeds for greater neighborhood communication, empower our communities and nurture our local culture.

Join us to hear how it all started.
