Temporary IT Assistant

The National Office of Friends of the Children is looking for a temporary IT Assistant to assist with a two week project. The project entails preparing and distributing laptops for our national mentoring network. Please see attached job description for more details. POSITION TITLE: IT Assistant LOCATION: Portland, Oregon

STATUS: Temporary, Part-time (50% FTE) REPORTS TO: Manger of Evaluation

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel.

POSITON OBJECTIVE:

To support the preparation of laptop computers for distribution throughout the Friends of the Children nation wide network of chapters. Key areas of responsibility include direct communication and interface with National employees and constituents to meet their needs and enhance the computer hardware and software systems of the organization.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Installation of software on Windows based laptop computers. * Provide support throughout the delivery of equipment to our chapters. * Maintain a current inventory and paperwork of all computer related hardware and software. * Package, ship and track hardware to the seven chapter locations.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:

* Capable of installing and configuring Microsoft Windows XP and NT/2000 Workstation onto an unformatted system. As well as the skills to plan and implement updates as necessary. * Have excellent knowledge of Windows XP and Windows NT/2000 Workstation. * Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Pro XP and 2000. * Capable of troubleshooting IBM compatible computer hardware from the component level. * Have working knowledge of hardware firewalls. * Working knowledge of the Internet and related software. * Ability to work independently with limited supervision, and to function successfully as a team player. * Strong organizational and time management skills; must be detail oriented.

EDUCATION PREFERRED:

Education and/or equivalent experience to demonstrate proficiency and knowledge to perform required duties and responsibilities. Related degree preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires periodic lifting and moving of computer hardware not to exceed 50 pounds, as well as the ability to sit or stand and work at a computer or on related equipment as required, possibly for extended periods of time.
