The Act to End Hunger Coordinator will work with project partners to develop the second 5-year strategic plan to address the root causes of hunger and food insecurity in Oregon. The coordinator will convene meetings with key stakeholders and members of the public throughout the state to gather information about how hunger and food insecurity affects Oregonians. The coordinator will compile and analyze information and provide recommendations for strategic activities, and create the next Act to End Hunger. Finally, the coordinator will work with an evaluation consultant to create measurements to evaluate activities outlined in the next Act.

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop the next Act to End Hunger: Set up meetings and listening sessions throughout the state and interview key stakeholders: Gather information about hunger and food security from a variety of perspectives, specifically including voices from minority communities and organizations focusing on health and nutrition; Analyze and organize information from listening sessions and interviews; Provide recommendations for strategic activities that will address hunger and food insecurity throughout Oregon; Work with consultant on the evaluation of strategic initiatives to address hunger: Analyze secondary data sources (reports and statistics) to identify key indicators of hunger and food insecurity that can be measured over time; Identify opportunities for policy development; research methods for choosing policy options and compare to current methods; Provide recommendations as appropriate. Work with evaluation consultant to create measurements; Communicate with project partners: Provide regular updates to Task Force members and Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon

This a part-time, temporary position starting April 2009 and ending February 2010.

Position closes on April 1, 2009 at 5pm

Salary / Pay Rate:$19/hr - 25/hrs. a week
Required Skills and Abilities:Background in project development, planning and evaluation; Ability to analyze and compile large amounts of information, distilling it into recommendations for action; Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and community members; Ability to work independently and collaboratively with co-workers and community partners; Ability to think creatively and respond to a changing environment; Sensitivity to the issues facing limited-income people; experience working with limited-income populations helpful; Proficiency with computers and software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel; Must have a working vehicle in good repair and automobile insurance
Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of public policy, planning, sociology or related field. Travel: Some travel is involved. Applicant must have a working vehicle in good repair and automobile insurance
