The position of Mental Health Peer Support Specialist works with the staff and management of the Housing and Support Services Department to provide peer support to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). The incumbent will work in collaboration with CAP staff to support CAP clients who are experiencing mental health issues such as (but not limited to) depression, substance abuse, or anxiety. Job Description

SUMMARY
Supervise a group of 12 youth residing in low-income permanent housing. Create a supportive learning environment that fosters safety and promotes the completion of homework and other academic skill building activities. Guide youth in learning life skills, including how to deal with oneself, others and relationships, and work in an effective manner.

HOURS: 10 hours per week, could go to 20 hours per week, 2 days per week (could go to 4 days per week), approx. 2:00-6:30 (dependent on site) at housing complexes. (Location is approx. SE 122nd and Powell neighborhood) Position runs through June 2015.

Peer Mentor

Provide coaching and support and serve as a peer mentor with a diverse population of homeless youth, ages 17-25, as part of a project providing alcohol and drug and co-occurring recovery-oriented care. Qualifications include: GED or other high school equivalent, knowledge or experience of homeless youth culture and issues related to substance use, at least 1 year clean and sober. This position is 20 hours/week. Pay rate is $9.10/hour and qualifies for partial benefits. Multicultural and intersecting diversities highly valued.
