Volunteer Opportunity with non-profit Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization

IRCO runs Rigler SUN School in NE Portland. This program provides free after school programming for K-8 grade students. Classes range from drama, homework help, dance, cooking, to gardening and much, much more. The spring term starts April 5, 2010, ends May 27th, 2010, and runs Monday-Thursday from 2:10-5:10pm.

Rigler SUN is recruiting energetic, driven, organized and experienced volunteers to work as part of an awesome team providing this valuable opportunity to the community.

NE Family Cooperative Community Seeks Board Members

The NE Family Cooperative Community is seeking Board members.   We hope to develop a diverse Board of Directors with skill sets or experience that includes  finance, legal,  nonprofits, co-ops, and family services.  The Board of Directors will assist the organization with capacity building and becoming an independent nonprofit organization.  We are currently a sponsored project of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, a 501c3.  Interested individuals should send a letter of interest to nefamilycoop@gmail.com.

Portland Central America Solidarity Committee needs website volunteer

Founded in 1979, the Portland Central America Solidarity Committee educates and mobilizes community members, workers and students around struggles for human rights and social justice throughout the Americas. PCASC is looking for a volunteer to transfer content from the old website to our new wordpress account and update home page content on a weekly basis. The time commitment is 5-10 hours per month and can be done in our office or at home. The only requirement is a commitment to social justice and knowledge of web design and development.

The Community Exchange Institute continues to make progress in its research of the trade exchange/commercial barter industry to help reignite Portland’s economy! Collin Ferguson, Sarah Noyes, and Cynthia Casas recently traveled to Colorado to study with industry leaders where they learned the critical business drivers necessary to operate a trade exchange.

Greening East and Northeast Portland with Friends of Trees this Saturday

All you need to do is simply show up around 8:45am at the staging sites listed below. Friends of Trees will provide morning refreshments, gloves, and tools, as well as guidance from experienced volunteer crew leaders. We just ask that you wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. It’s a fun and easy way to make a difference in your community!

EAST PORTLAND Argay, Parkrose, Parkrose Heights, Russell and Wilkes neighborhoods. Join us to plant almost 150 street trees! Meet at Eastminster Presbyterian Church – 12505 NE Halsey St.

NORTHEAST PORTLAND Alameda, Grant Park, Irvington and Sabin neighborhoods. We’ll plant 120 street trees – please join us! Meet at the Friends of Trees office – 3117 NE MLK Blvd.

A little help makes a BIG difference!

Impact NW's Money Management Program is seeking Volunteer Bill Payers and Representative Payees to help low-income seniors and adults with disabilities who need financial education or help managing their personal finances. The Money Management Program is offered free of charge to eligible clients. Services include assistance with bill paying, help with budgeting, assistance with banking, debt management, help completing applications, preserving independent living, protection against fraud and financial abuse and financial education. The program aims to promote independent living, preserve dignity, prevent homelessness and protect against financial abuse. Volunteers are needed in both Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties. Flexible time commitments.

Volunteer Office Aid Needed

Impact NW's Senior Money Management Program needs a volunteer office aide to work in the program office on a scheduled basis when needed. The office aide assists the program coordinator in typing correspondence and forms, maintaining files and records of clients and volunteers, making phone calls and relaying messages and information for program personnel and clients. The purpose of this activity is to assist the coordinator in making the program run smoothly. Schedule is flexible but ideally we would like help 10-20 hours a week. Volunteers are needed in both Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties.

Plant Trees on Saturday with SOLV near the Clackamas Town Center!

Plant Trees and help restore the Phillips Creek watershed in Clackamas at SOLV’s Team Up For Watershed Health site on Saturday, March 13th. Plantings start at 9 am, end by 12 pm and SOLV provides tools and gloves. By planting native trees and shrubs, volunteers will be lowering stream temperatures and creating an ecosystem that will filter polluted stormwater runoff, improve water quality, provide better habitat for wildlife, and be more resilient to climate change. 

Volunteer to help with regional learning and development Conference!

American Society for Training and Development (ASTD-Cascadia) is hosting their Regional Conference in Salem, Oregon on October 20-21, 2010. The conference will feature an array of workshops that provide intensive, interactive experiences for every level of workplace learning professionals. In conjunction with the conference we are recruiting for two volunteer leadership positions. These roles provide opportunities to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, apply academic work to real-world situations, and make important networking contacts while helping the organization meet its goals.
