Who's online
It's not to late for you to join MIKE Program Youth Projects 2009-2010
It’s not too late!! To work with youth groups as a caring adult in their health classes to guide North Portland youth through the academic year 2009-2010. You will be enriched by meaningful relationships with diverse youth and first hand experience of how you can influence better health outcomes for us all.
Commitment is ~1.5 hours per week of youth class time plus preparation and transportation to site. One site meets once a week and youth groups shift at the semester mark end of January/First of February. One site meets once a week for the academic year. Firm commitment to youth group, training and ability to pass fingerprint background check required. Once placed in a youth group, mentors must fulfill their responsibility to vulnerable youth.
Find out more. View www.mikeprogram.org, or phone: 503.296.7705, email [email protected]; or attend an open house and informal Q & A on Thursday, Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 4:30-6:30 PM. RSVP [email protected] to attend.
MIKE Program’s youth development and health enrichment curriculum meets national and Oregon state standards for comprehensive adolescent health education. A health instructor will navigate on-site requirements and lesson plans while you join other adults to boost health and development in teens by serving as a role model and trusted, caring adult mentor in small group activities and on field trips. You’ll be there to learn and to promote success as the youth: design their own [and your] mission related T-shirt; sample healthy snacks; participate in hands-on lessons and field trips to community settings, including a grocery store and dialysis unit; and ultimately design and present their own health message for their peers and neighbors.
Ideal position for health promotion, youth development, education, or pre-health professional majors. Opportunity to undertake community service with your friends.
