Description
Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals (OFOSA) formed in 2002 after shelter volunteers had to euthanize an adoptable animal for untreated medical conditions. Beauty was a quiet black cocker spaniel that after five days in the shelter, was found dirty and matted in “his” kennel. Out of unselfish love, it was clear that something needed to be done. Upon grooming and further inspection, sores and tumors were found encompassing “his” body. In addition, the cocker was not male as initially informed. After determining the serious condition that this pup was in, she was rushed to the veterinarian. Unfortunately, it was too late. It was decided right then and there more had to be done to care for and help these misplaced and often neglected animals.
Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals (OFOSA) is an all volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We have a partnership with local shelters to provide rescue to dogs and cats who would otherwise be euthanized due to overpopulation. We are able to provide medical care for complex and expensive dogs and cats whose condition put them at risk for a life in the shelter system. Our volunteer veterinarians are dedicated and provide a life-saving service.
Our volunteers are hands on with the dogs and cats we rescue. They foster by bringing a dog or cat into their home until an adoptive family can be found. For those volunteers who can not foster we invite them to help with our adoption events on the weekends at one of the Beaverton Petco locations. The adoption events are held on Saturdays and Sundays from Noon - 4PM at the Tanasborne and Beaverton Petco locations.
