English Tutors Needed for Refugees and Immigrants

Volunteers are needed to tutor legal refugees and immigrants who want to become US citizens. Refugee and Immigrant Support and Education (RISE) is a program of Lutheran Community Services NW, one of Portland's key refugee resettlement programs. RISE volunteers are matched with an appropriate refugee or immigrant adult who needs basic English instruction focused on taking the US citizenship test. We provide training and on-going support to our volunteers. (We will have an all-day volunteer orientation on Saturday, December 11.)

Commitment and Qualifications: * 6 month, weekly 3-5 hour commitment to work one-on-one at the home of an eligible refugee or immigrant family in Portland or Beaverton. * Able to work effectively with adults in a cross-cultural context. * ESL teaching/tutoring experience a plus, but not a requirement.
