Position Available with Insights Teen Parent Program
Insights Teen Parent Program, a program operating under Janus Youth Programs, Inc., has the following position currently available:
Insights Teen Parent Services, a Portland area organization serving pregnant and parenting adolescents since 1979, is seeking an AmeriCorps Member to work with us supporting young families and children September 2010 – July 2011. Insights believes that teen parents can be great parents when they are given meaningful support, education and opportunity.
Responsibilities will include:
· co-facilitating a parenting class a local high school
· over-seeing emergency drop-in services for parenting adolescents seeking housing and basic needs assistance.
· connecting young families with education options, state assistance, housing, health care, child care and food resources
· administering intake assessments performed in the home for one of our parenting programs
· presenting sexual health/birth control/STI information to local students and professionals
· participating in local and statewide teen parent collaborative networks.
· providing group support for parenting groups
In addition, Insights’ AmeriCorps Member will work as a member of a 28 person statewide AmeriCorps HOPE (Healthy Options through Prevention and Education) team working independently, and collaboratively to promote safe and healthy sexuality for young Oregonians. All AmeriCorps HOPE Members are required to attend an orientation session in the Salem area September 7-10, which includes overnight accommodation.
Applicants for this position must have:
· Basic knowledge and comfort with current issues in sexual health.
· Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills including public speaking.
· Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate respect for diverse opinions, beliefs, and values.
· Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or equivalent experience with children, adolescents and families.
· Ability to work independently and in groups.
· Valid driver's license, current proof of insurance, and their own car which will be used daily for home and field visits.
This position is a full time AmeriCorps member beginning September 1, 2010 and ending July 31,2011. AmeriCorps offers an Education Award of $4,725 plus a monthly stipend, insurance coverage, child care if eligible, and free training.
