Planned Parenthood Hiring Field Organizer in Portland
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon is currently seeking a Field Organizer to carry out grassroots advocacy work. The Field Organizer implements strategic plans that protect reproductive rights. Previous experience with volunteer recruitment and leadership development desired. Driven candidates capable of working independently to organize and motivate volunteers are encouraged to apply.
The Field Organizer works out of our Portland office and services several counties across northwest Oregon. Candidates must be able to work evening hours and on weekends. Travel throughout the state is required.

PRIVATE FIELD ORGANIZER JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Field Organizer Dept: PPAO Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt Reports to: Political Director
General Summary:
Responsible for implementing PPAO’s strategic field plan. This includes recruiting and developing a local volunteer/activist base, running a tabling outreach program, identifying and recruiting Legislative Action Team members, and working with the campus interns at local colleges to build a Planned Parenthood presence. The position is aimed at building the capacity of the pro-choice movement on the ground.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Work with Political Director to implement strategic field plan including list pulls, script writing, tracking form oversight, and overall accountability for recruitment numbers in the department. Develop leaders and build Legislative Action Teams with a specific focus on fundraising as well as accountability work with local legislators including town halls, lobbying and attendance at hearings, letter writing, and phoning.Significant telephone outreach for volunteer recruitment, coordination and maintenance required in addition to the development of relationships with volunteers and cultivation of leaders. Coordinate all local visibility and outreach activities including leading tabling and crowd canvassing activities, lobby days, researching appropriate events, staffing events, etc.Lead phone banks, activist nights, and meetings, as well as assisting with volunteer trainings.Effectively manage interns for overall program functioning. Support earned media campaigns such as letters to the editor and publicity events. Significant travel required. Access to personal vehicle is strongly recommended. Attend trainings and some statewide meetings/events.Develop relationships with allied organizations.Performs other duties as needed or directed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Will provide supervision and general support of grassroots interns and volunteer leaders for the Legislative Action Teams.
Education and/or Experience:
Requires 3 years experience working as a community organizer, campaign manager or in a legislative capacity. Requires leadership and strong people skills, ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
