position summary: | POSITION SUMMARY: Local refugee resettlement agency seeks Burmese/Karen speaking case manager to work with new arrivals into the Vancouver, WA area. Will mentor/train to take first steps into role. This position assists refugees in becoming successfully resettled and self-sufficient by facilitating the integration and coordination of the Resettlement and Placement (R & P) Program. Job duties include: - Transportation Assistance (driving families and individuals to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, etc) - Provide cultural orientation and support to refugees adjusting to life in the U.S. and the Portland and Vancouver metropolitan area. - Provide direct services to assist refugees in problem solving, including bilingual interpretation. - Translation of documents. - Provide access and coordination services through referrals to refugee-service providers including the Health Department, PIC/Work Source West, DSHS, and Clark College. - Model and encourage direct, professional communication among staff members and facilitate development of a positive staff support network. - Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population he/she serves. Required Skills and Abilities: | Essential skills: - computer skills - fluent in Burmese and English (Karen dialect is a plus, not a must) - consistent transportation and driver's license - high degree of cross cultural sensitivity - Must have an understanding of American culture. - Must be familiar with city and state refugee programs preferred - Must possess good organizational and be able to prioritize multiple tasks. - Must have good interpersonal skills. - Must be comfortable working in a multicultural environment. - Must have full access to a car with valid driver’s license and insurance. - knowledge and confidence with the social services system - teachable/willing attitude - flexible schedule |
