position summary: | Essential Job Function: The Community Cycling Center will offer after-school Bike Clubs in six elementary schools in N/NE Portland this fall. Successful candidates for the Youth Program Instructor position will have passion and experience working with diverse and low-income youth; familiarity with experiential education; experience facilitating groups; and an interest in bicycles. Youth Program Instructor must own a bicycle. This is a part-time, seasonal position that will run from mid September through November. This is a prime opportunity to gain valuable hands-on, experiential teaching experience in a collaborative, fun environment. Duties: • Complete a comprehensive instructor training including basic bicycle maintenance, repair, and safety; elements of experiential education; and behavior management. (Training held mid Sept. Days/times TBA); • Using a well-established curriculum, co-instruct an after-school bicycle safety program for 12-14 youth (ages 8-13). Lessons include basic flat tire repair, bicycle safety checks, rules of the road, and group riding; • Implement our riding protocol and maintain a safe environment for all students; • Support an adult or youth volunteer Bike Club Assistant; • Complete necessary pre/post student surveys, skill assessments, lesson feedback forms and final reports; • Complete other administrative duties as needed; • Conduct yourself in a professional manner. • We believe that fundraising is everyone's job. There is an expectation that all employees will support fundraising activities. |
Salary / Pay Rate: | $10-11.50 an hour |
Qualifications: | General Qualifications: • Experience facilitating youth groups; • Experience working with low-income and diverse individuals; • General familiarity with experiential education; • Ability to ride a bicycle up to 20 miles; • Ability to communicate effectively with SUN coordinators, CCC staff and school district staff and volunteers; • Ability to work a flexible schedule; • Criminal background check required; • Current CPR and First Aid certification. |
