position summary: | Metropolitan Family Service Position Description POSITION TITLE: Gresham CAFE Program Instructor SUPERVISOR: CJ Mead, Gresham CAFE Program Coordinator LOCATION: Hall Elementary, Highland Elementary, East Gresham Grade School, or North Gresham Grade School SUMMARY OF POSITION: Facilitate after-school literacy focused activities for students who are behind academically. The Instructor will be responsible for leading reading, writing, and math activities and ensuring homework completion while maintaining classroom management and positive behavior support systems for a small group of students. The Instructor will be responsible for clerical, organizational, and classroom duties including monitoring student progress. He/ she will work directly with the CAFE Program Coordinator, the CAFE Program Associate, community members, school staff, and parents to best serve the students. Instruction will be based off of two specific curricula and some flexibility will be involved in planning additional activities. The CAFE Program Instructors are part time, temporary employees of Metropolitan Family Service. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: While maintaining class decorum, instruct after-school students (grades 2-5) Guide students as they work on specific class goals and social skills after school Assist Program Associate with curriculum development, connecting after school curriculum to academic goals and standards, and program maintenance Develop positive working relationships with students, families, teachers, school staff, office staff, custodians, and volunteers. Assist Program Associate with the planning and implementation of family literacy events Work within school policies, agency and school confidentiality, and understand referral system for behaviors. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: All employees must submit Criminal Background Check. Experience in teaching and connecting curriculum to standards. Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting. An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual. Spanish or Russian skills a plus, but not necessary. Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills. A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team. A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion. A commitment to the goals of Gresham-Barlow School District and Metropolitan Family Service. HOURS: 17.75 Hours per week. This is a Monday – Friday position and requires adherence to a set schedule.
