Mission
The Community Cycling Center broadens access to bicycling and its benefits through our hands-on programs, volunteer projects, and neighborhood shop. We believe that bicycles are a tool for empowerment and a vehicle for change.
About the Program
The Holiday Bike Drive is the Community Cycling Center's signature annual event. This December, we are providing bikes, helmets, safety education and a wonderful holiday party to over 500 low-income children. The event will take place in Portland on December 14, 2008. In order to connect kids to bikes, we work with partnering agencies who refer children that meet the event requirements. The Holiday Bike Drive (HBD) Assistant is the main contact for agencies and will organize all incoming referrals. This position requires a commitment of at least 10 hours a week until the day of the event.
Required Skills
No bicycle-related skills required
Attention to detail, excellent written and verbal skills, comfortable on the phone, assertive when necessary
Professional demeanor
Computer skills, including a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access and ability to learn new programs
Energetic, desire to deal with the public
Duties
Work closely with CCC Staff Development and Executive Assistant
Contact agencies by phone to let them know about our online registration system, gather contact information, and invite agencies to refer children
Learn Rainier registration system and be available to answer agency questions about how to use the system
Manage registration information received through Rainier registration system
Communicate periodically with Bike Production Coordinator to make sure we have the right sizes and number of bikes for the children referred
Maintain communication with partnering agencies including creation of information packets that will contain individual invitations for each registered child
Develop methods to improve and streamline the process
Co-lead registration process at the event in order to help supervise registration and answer questions families or agencies may have on the day of the event

This volunteer position will require 10 hours per week or more. This is a flexible work schedule that can be completed in 2-5 days each week.
