Job Posting: Homeless Shelter Manager
JOB TITLE: Shelter Night Manager at the Goose Hollow Family Shelter
TIME: [12-16 hours per week] November 1, 2005 – April 30, 2006
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Oversee, facilitate and coordinate the activities of volunteers during the hours of emergency shelter operation. Shelter Manager provides a safe, nurturing environment (temporary living space) for Shelters Guests, and is responsible for facilitating the daily operations and maintenance of the shelter.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES:
•Facilitate and supervise the nightly operation of the emergency winter shelter for homeless families •Monitor the volunteer schedule to ensure openings are filled •Prepare shelter each night to receive guests and volunteers •Welcome Volunteers •Greet Shelter Guests. •Interact with Referral Agencies, Day Shelter Managers, and Case Management as needed to insure accuracy and accountability •Attend Shelter Staff Meetings and Communicate with Shelter Director about the activities and needs of the Shelter •Occasionally participate in special events, fundraising and public presentations
JOB RELATED DECISION MAKING:
•Demonstrate knowledge of homeless issues •Ability to display a positive, non-judgmental attitude •Ability to coordinate and facilitate processes to accomplish tasks necessary to operate a shelter •Ability to schedule and coordinate volunteers who facilitate shelter activities and operations •Ability to work without direct supervision and to provide leadership •Ability to manage time and meet deadlines related to the daily operating schedule of shelter activities •Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork •Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing •Ability to work in an environment where people may be verbally confrontational •Knowledge of de-escalation (conflict resolution) methods, communication and techniques, and maintenance of appropriate boundaries •Knowledge of community and social agencies working with the homeless
