NATURE DAY CAMP FULL DAY INSTRUCTOR Salary: $10.50 / hour Dates of Employment: June 15 - August 22, 2009 1 week training and 9 weeks programming
ABBREVIATED JOB DESCRIPTION
Tryon Creek State Natural Area offers 672 acres of beautiful, forested canyon and uplands only 15 minutes from downtown Portland. Nature Day Camp provides children with the freedom to explore the natural world on rambling hikes through the woods, excursions along the creek, science experiments and nature-based arts and crafts in our classroom, and games, songs, stories and plays in our outdoor shelter. Instructors will:
• Provide campers from 1st to 5th grade with an educational, recreational, wholesome and safe experience based on sound ecological practices. • Work closely with camp staff and volunteers to develop program ideas and schedules. • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate high school assistant counselors. • Responsible for general cleanliness and conditions of camp facilities. • Assist in documentation and evaluation of camp programs. • Maintain professional and informative relationship with parents. • Camp staff hours are 8 am - 4 pm.
Qualified applicants will be skilled environmental educators with prior experience in outdoor, experiential teaching, high school student mentoring, and NW OR ecology.
